Prd 016 Possible concept for an “upside down ERP” view Created by James on 6/23/2013 1:17:02 PM
The purpose of this article/concept is a visualisation to get people’s attention and see me as somebody who sees things very differently and better...
Start by imagining me hanging upside down in the back-swing...
1. You look strange, but then, I guess from where you are sitting I look strange!!
I want to talk about ERP implementation and, in the process, I hope to turn your world-view of ERP upside down...
2. I am an engineer, I have been using Information Technology since 1973 and in business since 1982 and ERP since 1987.
I have been consulting for my own account since 1989 in the field of the strategic and practical application of Information Technology and have been diagnosing failed and sub-optimal ERP implementations since 1990.
3. Why should you listen to what I have to say?
I reported in 1991 that 70% of IT (and ERP) projects were failing outright, subsequently the Financial Mail reported that “19 out of 20 ERP implementations fail to deliver what was promised”, Gartner have reported that most organizations are NOT making better decisions than they did five years ago despite massive IT investments – I have written a book and present courses on why these things happen AND how to fix them.
Now imagine me swinging upright...
So I believe I have something of value to offer!!
4. What I have to say is based on some notable successes and some embarrassing failures.
I have investigated and diagnosed dozens of failed and sub-optimal ERP and IT projects and environments and turned quite a few projects around.
I have spoken at over 90 commercial public conferences.
This is PRACTICAL, FIRST HAND STUFF!!!
5. In all the above, apart from first year Computer Science, third year Numerical Methods and some classical IT textbooks I have NOT been exposed to ANY formal commercial IT training!
That is NOT a problem...
In fact, it is a HUGE PLUS and the main reason I see things differently!
Because of this unusual background I see MAJOR FLAWS in the traditional ways of doing ERP on all sorts of fronts...
6. One of the things that I have seen from the very start is that strategy is PARAMOUNT – it is vital to understand the ESSENCE of why the organization exists and HOW it THRIVES and then to align the ERP with this.
7. Executive decision support SHOULD be at the heart of the focus of implementing ERP.
I learned about the importance of making the right decisions driven from computer based information right back in 1982, it has been one of my central tenants ever since!
My client was able to double their turnover in twelve months by enabling their clients to make better decisions.
8. I have understood that Strategic Engineered Precision Configuration based on Precision Taxonomies coupled to fundamental first principles configuration design are pivotal and fundamental for a high value solution.
9. So, I have developed an approach to ERP and proven that it works that is radically different and radically better than existing methods.
10. If YOU are frustrated with your ERP, you NEED to talk to me!!!
